During the 1850s, American settlers rapidly invade Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota territories in Wyoming, Minnesota, and South Dakota. The first major uprising occurs in 1854 as the Oglala fight against and kill 19 U.S. soldiers near Laramie, Wyoming. The following year, U.S. soldiers retaliate and massacre over 100 Santee Dakota in their Nebraska camp and take their chief prisoner. (https://www.u-s-history.com/pages/h1187.html)
